SYNOPSIS OR PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the midst of an economic crisis and social unrest in 1998 Jakarta, Asiung, a struggling store owner, faces overwhelming challenges as he fights to save his pregnant wife's life, and their failing business, and discovers the true meaning of sacrifice and resilience.

Recent CSUN Senior Film Thesis films have screened in Cannes, won DGA Student Film Awards, and been semi- finalists in the Student Academy Awards and BAFTA Student Film Awards. Funding for the program is supported by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and directing mentors include legends like Donald Petrie and Robert Townsend. Selected projects have the distinction of being ‘ The ARRI Project’ and awarded use of a professional ARRI Alexa/ Amira camera, equipment, and ASC Cinematography mentor.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:
[ASIUNG] 26 to 33 years old. A Chinese-Indonesian man who is dedicated to his wife, Linda, and is willing to make sacrifices to provide for her and their unborn child. Responsible, caring, and hardworking, he demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility as the owner of the "Asiung Jaya Store" in Glodok, Indonesia's Chinatown. When faced with challenges, such as financial difficulties and the looming medical crisis, Asiung remains determined and does his best to find solutions. The loss of Linda and his first kid and the support of Andre and Nabil ultimately shape him into a stronger and more empathetic individual, highlighting the enduring bonds of community and compassion in the face of adversity. Role involves a looting scene in which he is pushed and falls, which will be overseen by a stunt coordinator. Shoots 5 days. LEAD.
[LINDA] 25 to 32 years old. A Chinese-Indonesian woman who is five months pregnant and a loving and caring wife who is deeply dedicated to her husband, Asiung. Her character embodies warmth, kindness, and a strong sense of family. Despite facing the challenges of a high-risk pregnancy and the economic crisis, Linda remains resilient and supportive of her husband. She expresses concern for Asiung's well-being and exhibits a sense of selflessness when she urges him to make amends with their employee, Andre. Linda's character reflects the importance of family bonds and the sacrifices made for the ones we love. Shoots 5 days. LEAD.
[ANDRE] 21 to 28 years old. An Indonesian or Chinese-Indonesian employee who works for Asiung at the "Asiung Jaya" store, he is loyal and dedicated. Patient, understanding, and compassionate, he is willing to forgive and support Asiung, even when there are conflicts or misunderstandings. He is a dependable friend and employee, willing to help during challenging times. Shoots 3 days. SUPPORTING. [DR. GUNAWAN] 35 to 45 years old. An Indonesian or Chinese-Indonesian doctor who delivers difficult news to Asiung and Linda regarding Linda's medical condition during her pregnancy. His character exhibits professionalism and straightforwardness in delivering critical medical information. He appears apathetic and also practical, emphasizing the urgency and severity of the situation. Dr. Gunawan's character catalyzes the unfolding drama and the decisions that Asiung and Linda must make regarding their medical and financial circumstances. Shoots 1 day. SUPPORTING.
[NURSE] 23 to 30 years old. An Indonesian or Chinese-Indonesian nurse who facilitates Linda's medical examination and provides information about her health condition. Shoots 1 day. SUPPORTING. [MOM] 25 to 35 years old. An Indonesian or Chinese-Indonesian woman who appears in front of the Asiung Jaya Store with her son, Nabil, who is interested in getting candy. She accompanies Nabil and interacts politely with Asiung. Shoots 1 day. SUPPORTING.
[FAJRI] 8 to 12 years old. An Indonesian or Chinese-Indonesian child who is inquisitive, perhaps mischievous, and initially attempts to steal candy from Asiung's store. When confronted, they are nervous and afraid, intimidated by Asiung. Minor will not be featured in any scenes involving mature content. Shoots 1 day. SUPPORTING.
[NABIL] 8 to 12 years old. An Indonesian or Chinese-Indonesian child who is young, curious, and innocent. Polite and well-behaved, they are willing to listen to their mother and adults.
