Stock Tip!

Stock can be one of the most cost effective ways to make a gift.

Tax law generally allows deduction of the current market value of long-term assets (held longer than one year) donated to a charity. For example, a stock purchased at $1,000 more than one year ago and appreciated to a current value of $5,000 can generally be deducted for the full $5,000 if donated to a charity.  In contrast, if the stock is first sold then the cash proceeds donated, tax could be incurred on the realized gain.

Of course, this is not to be construed as legal or tax advice.  Please consult your tax advisor for details!

For more information, please contact Development Manager Rosalyn Kawahira (213) 625-7000 x17 or rkawahira@eastwestplayers.org.
