Support EWP

June Kyoko Lu and Mako in East West Players inaugural production, Rashomon. (1965)

EWP is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Tax ID 95-6151775. Contributions are deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors may decline benefits to gain full tax deductibility. Department of Social Services permit on file at EWP office.

When East West Players (EWP) was founded in 1965, Asian American actors faced limited opportunities to perform outside of stereotypical and often demeaning roles.  Since then, what started as a group of proactive Asian American performers rehearsing in a church basement has now become “the nation’s pre-eminent Asian-American theater troupe” (New York Times 12/01) with "many of this country's Asian American theatres…launched…on the model of East West's early success" (Los Angeles Times 11/02).

Today, EWP stands on a solid history of 42 years.  The organization is not only the premier Asian Pacific American theatre, we are also the oldest operating theatre of color in the U.S.  But, our future has not been pre-orchestrated.  As a nonprofit organization, EWP artists depend on charitable contributions from community supporters and arts advocates to continue creating, developing, and forging the voices of Asian Pacific America.

Your tax-deductible donation will support mainstage productions Theatre for Youth Initiatives, Literary Programs, Actors Conservatory, ACTS Career Development Network and (the often overlooked) general operations that are necessary to make it all happen.

Here are ways to take you can take action today to continue making EWP and our community’s artistic voices possible.

Stock Tip!

What's One of the Most Cost Effective Ways to Make a Gift? Stock!

Tax law generally allows you to deduct the current market value of long-term assets (held longer than one year) donated to a charity. For example, if you bought stock at $1,000 a few years ago and it has appreciated to a current value of $5,000, you can generally take a deduction of the full $5,000 if you donate that stock to EWP. If on the other hand you sell the stock first and then donate the cash proceeds to EWP, you would incur tax on the realized gain.

Of course, this is not to be construed as legal or tax advice; please consult your tax advisor for details.

For more information, please contact Development Manager Lisa Tang (213) 625-7000 x17 or ltang@eastwestplayers.org.

Remember EWP's Future in Your Future

By remembering East West Players in your will or living trust, you can ensure that your voice has a lasting impact on the Asian Pacific Islander community. It is simple to state your support of EWP in your bequest:

"I give, devise and bequeath to East West Players ___% of the residue of my estate."

OR

"I give, devise and bequeath to East West Players the sum of $____."

OR

"I give, devise and bequeath to East West Players my interest in (describe the property and exact location)."

This wording is provided as an example only and is not to be construed as legal or tax advice. You should consult with your own counsel for details. If you do include EWP in your will or trust, please let us know so we can acknowledge your generosity.
